Elizabeth Fernihough was baptised on 5th April 1750 at Flintham in Nottinghamshire, daughter of Elizabeth Fernihough, formerly Aram, and her husband John Fernihough, a farmer. Some time between 1752 and 1755 the family left Flintham and moved to Willoughby on the Wolds, about nineteen miles to the south, where Elizabeth's youngest two brothers were born. When Elizabeth was fourteen years old her father died at Willoughby.

The family appears to have left Willoughby some time after John's death, with Elizabeth's brother John marrying in 1776 at Hawksworth, a neighbouring village to Flintham. Elizabeth's mother died at Hawksworth in 1780.

Elizabeth was married on 7th February 1786 at Norwell, about thirteen miles north of Flintham, to a farmer called Richard Morton. He was a widower, with a thirteen year old daughter from his first marriage, Ann, to whom Elizabeth became stepmother. Elizabeth and Richard do not appear to have had any further children together.

Richard died in 1810 and was buried at Norwell.

Elizabeth returned to her native village of Flintham. In 1823 she was mentioned in her brother Thomas's will, which notes that she lived in one of three cottages he owned adjoining his farm, which appears to have been Tundy Leas Farm on Main Street in Flintham.

She wrote her will in 1833. She left her property to her brother William Fernihough, who was charged with making bequests to Elizabeth's stepdaughter, to the children and grandchildren of her late brother John, and to more distant relatives including the son of her late cousin Thomas Bennett (whose mother, Mary, was a sister of Elizabeth's father) and her cousin Sarah Elland (whose mother, Eleanor, was another sister of Elizabeth's father).

Elizabeth died at the age of 84, being buried at Flintham on 7th May 1834.
