Information on Elizabeth Cathey

Elizabeth Cathey was born ca 1774/75 in Burke (now McDowell) Co, NC. She seems to be home with her parents for the 1790 census, but I can't be sure as no ages were given for females. William Cathey had 5 females with him that year, one of them was certainly Elizabeth Cathey. She is a proven child of William Cathey as she and her husband William Mahaffey were named in the 1826 deed listing the heirs of William Cathey selling land, and both were named in the 1823 court case naming the heirs of George Cathey, deceased.

Elizabeth Cathey married William Mahaffey (spelled various ways, but for the sake of consistency, I'm using this spelling throughout). They married between 1790 and 1800 either in old Burke County or in old Buncombe County, depending on when they married.
