Facts and Events
[edit] Information on Andrew CatheyAndrew D. Cathey was born ca 1784/90 (per census analysis) in Burke (now McDowell) Co, NC. As far as I know he was the first one named "Andrew D. Cathey" though there were many after him named "Andrew Deaver Cathey", presumably named after him. I don't know for sure if this Andrew's middle initial stood for "Deaver" or "Dever" or not, but it seems likely. If true, then I don't know who he was named for, though it seems likely he was named in part for his grandfather Andrew Cathey. He is not a proven child of William Cathey, for he had died before the 1826 deed was made among the heirs of William Cathey. However, Andrew's death was recorded in the Family Bible, and William did have an otherwise unknown son with him in 1790 and 1800. It seems 100% likely that Andrew belongs in this family. Andrew was apparently home with his parents for the 1790 census (aged "under 16", born ca 1774/90). He seems to still be at home in 1800 (aged 10-15, born ca 1784/90). Andrew Cathey signed the 1806 petition requesting the formation of Haywood County. Andrew D. Cathey died on 1 Dec 1808 as reported in the William Cathey Family Bible. He died in Haywood County. I don't think he ever married. Source: http://www.martygrant.com/genealogy/cathey/cathey-william-haywood.htm |
