We were poor, but didn't know it for everyone else was poor too. As the song goes, "Got a horse and a cow, a mule and a plow, so I'll get along somehow". This was so typical of us. We always had plenty to eat and to feed others. From 1933 to 1936 was a real depression time. Our wood was hauled by wagon from across Utah Lake. We raised potatoes, corn, squash, etc. There was lots of fruit for canning. There were pigs, chickens and cows. The government took seven of our cows. The logic was we had too much beef. It made as much sense as the things that they are still doing.

   Elda LaVerne Pierce Throckmorton, 91, died February 5, 2006 at her daughter's home in So. Jordan, Utah. Born March 16, 1914 in Giles, Wayne Co., Utah to Martin Riley and Harriet Ann Peterson Pierce. She married Ammon Dee Throckmorton January 25, 1932 in Victor, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died November 18, 1971. Elda was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting and arranging flowers. She is survived by four daughters, Naomi Greenhalgh, Elaine (Larry) Farr, Roxie (William) Fackrell, Karla Dee (Louis) Gregg; 21 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, 48 great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Nora Fackrell, son-in-law, Karl Greenhalgh, and a great grandson, Trent Butler. Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 9th at 12:00 in the Payson Park Ward, 110 South 300 West, where friends may call from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Santaquin Cemetery under the direction of Holladay-Brown Funeral Home.
