Most people called them Dan and Tillie. Ammon Dee was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Naomi Throckmorton Greenhalgh: Daddy was a big strong man over 200 Ibs. All muscle, who worked hard all his life. He always loved the underdog. People who had lots of troubles especially teen age boys without Dads to look up to, and seemed to be outcasts. He befriended so many through the years, taking them to Boulder Mt., teaching them to pitch a tent, fish and hunt. Things they never had the opportunity to learn. Here daddy and mama had 5 girls and no boys. If we had been son's Daddy probably wouldn't have helped so many boys. Through the years, the boy scouts in our ward knew that Ammon with his big red truck would make the yearly trip to Boulder Mt.. All my growing up years and into my married life daddy never went to church. He never made much money being in business for himself hauling coal and delivering to people around town. When people especially widows couldn't pay, he just put their receipts in a green tin box on the kitchen cupboard, when he died the box was full. Different times mama would ask him if she could send some of them a bill but he refused. We weren't poor. We always had what we needed. Thanks to mama and daddy's hard work. In 1966 daddy started having health problems. Being self-employed they had no insurance. He kept working no matter how much pain he was in. He started going back to church and little by little his testimony grew and his health grew worse. So many prayers and fasting were done for him. It was amazing how strong his testimony became as his body weakened. He lost a lot of weight and was hospitalized many times. The Doctors and specialists couldn't find what was wrong. (the autopsy showed he had Addison Disease) During this time mom and dad went back to the temple. They were married in the temple one year after they were first married in Victor, Utah. after a while daddy became inactive. Before daddy couldn't walk anymore, he was made Elders Quorum President for several months. He loved it. Daddy was such a fighter. When his legs became to weak to walk, he crawled, when he fell over when he crawled, he had one of us stand on each side of him so he wouldn't fall as he crawled. He was determined to help himself as long as he could. Mama would help him crawl into the bathroom, help him on the toilet, put a foam mattress on the floor and close the door. When she heard him fall on the mattress she would help him back to bed. My four sisters and I were there most of the time to help mama. Many times mama was so ill we thought she would die before daddy. This lasted about 5 years. He was hospitalized many times. The last year he was bedfast. I remember one day when it was my turn to be with him, I kissed his forehead and he moaned. I forgot how much it hurt him even to be touched. Through all these trying years as his testimony grew, he kept saying, "It's worth it all to feel the spirit with me". This is the experience I want us all to keep in our hearts and tell it over and over again to our posterity, because that is what daddy made us promise to do. One day, daddy was laying in his bedroom feeling so full of pain and having a hard time to go on. He heard a voice coming from the corner of his bedroom. It surprised him because no one was there. He heard the voice again. This time he understood the words, "Keep on having faith, Keep on having faith". Daddy recognized the voice of his dear friend from the preexistence, who he loved so much, and whom he had been with for so long. Daddy was told to let all of his posterity know of his beautiful experience and remember to often teach these words to them, "Keep on having faith".
