Edward Pearl Conkling was born on 10 July 1866 in Ohio. He later moved to San Jose, California where he worked in banking and for the telephone company. On 24 May 1898 he married Cora M. Edwards, in San Jose (Santa Clara County), California. Cora was born on 15 August 1860 and died on 15 January 1901 in San Jose. He died suddenly in San Francisco, California at the age of 45 on 19 August 1911. His obituary states that he probably died of heart disease. His father and an older sister also died of heart disease. Edward and Cora are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose.
