Edouard Charles Scherno was born in Hellert, Dabo on the 11th February 1865, the son of Francoise-Antoine Scherno and Madeleine Carabin. His father recognised him as his son thirty years later on the 30th August 1895 and as a result Edouard's surname was initially listed as Carabin on his marriage documentation in 1892. Edouard was a shoemaker and he passed away in Schaeferhof on the 8th February 1935.

Edouard and Francoise were married in Dabo on the 31st December 1892. Edouard and Francoise had seven children, all of whom are believed to be born in or around Schaeferhof. Their grandson Marcel Lehrer remembered the family living in Kuhberg, a small hamlet near Schaeferhof.
