Utica Observer-Dispatch, 25 Jan 2011: DOROTHY R. COOLEY July 11, 1932 - January 24, 2011 Dorothy R. Cooley, 78 of Deerfield passed away in the comfort of her home on Monday January 24, 2011, after an extended illness with her family by her side. Dorothy was born in Hillsboro, NY on July 11, 1932, the daughter of Clarence and Lena (Durgee) Raut. She graduated from Camden Central High School and the Utica School of Commerce. Dorothy worked for the Utica Mutual Insurance Co., the Oneida County Department of Social Services, and retired from her position as Medical Transcriptionist at the Broadacres Nursing Home. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she was united in marriage to John L. Cooley on June 14, 1958. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile. Dorothy is survived by her husband, John; children, Bethann (Robert) Martin of Deerfield, John (Sandra) Cooley of Dallas, Darwin (Lisa) Cooley of Carthage, and Barbara (David) Hardy of Deerfield; 11 grandchildren, Michael, Brian, and Jessica Martin, Alicia and Christopher Cooley, Katie Smith, Megan Ott, Hannah and Alexander Cooley, Aaron and Claire Hardy; brother-in-law, G. William (Helen) Cooley; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Morgan and Bea Skinner; nieces and nephews, Ronald Raut, Mark (Dianna) Raut, Jeffrey Raut, James (Linda) Raut, Christine (Dennis) Byrne, Diane (David) Swanson, Richard (Janet) Morgan, John (Pat) Morgan, Robert (Cathi) Morgan, Nancy (Timothy) Butkus, G.W. Cooley, Jr., Robert (Renee) Cooley, and David (Brenda) Cooley; and two very dear friends, Carolyn Taverne and Evelyn Mueller. Dorothy was predeceased by her son Steven Garth Cooley in 1990; and two brothers, James Raut and David Raut. ... Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday... and a memorial funeral service will be held on Friday,..at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica.
