Dick Verdoorn Passes On

Funeral services for Dick Verdoorn, 78, were held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Porter Funeral home and at 1:30 at the First Reformed, church with Rev. Henry B. Poppen officiating. He died Wednesday at the Sioux Center hospital where he was taken after he suffered a stroke at his home. Burial was in Valley View cemetery. Mrs. Allen Bonthuis and Mrs. Jake Vande Weerd sang "Saved By Grace" and "No Night There" with Beverly Gaalswyk as organist. Pallbearers were Arie C. Bliek, Joe Van Woudenberg, Tom Gaalswyk, Alvin Gaalswyk, Herbert Bliek and James Kots.

Mr. Verdoorn was born July 11, 1886 in Holland and came to this country in 1888 and lived in Sioux county. He married Cora Dodeward March 13, 1910, and the couple farmed until 1946 when they retired and moved into town.

Survivors are the widow, two daughters, Elsie, Mrs. William Wissink and Cornelia. Mrs. John Wissink, both of Rock Valley, five sisters, Mrs. Joe Van Westernhuysen of Glenwood, Minn.: Mrs. Mary De Young of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Mrs. Henry Van Woudenberg, Mrs. Arie Gaalswyk and Mrs. Bert Bliek all of Rock Valley, two grandsons, two step-granddaughters and two great grandchildren.

Dick Verdoorn was a deacon of the First Reformed church for 12 years. A brother, Martin Verdoorn of Rochester, Minn, died Thursday at Rochester. Minn,, where he has lived the last few vears and burial was held this Monday at Ashton, Iowa where he lived for many years.
