Salt Spring Valley March the 21st 1875 Dear Father. As I have not heard from you in a long time I will wright you a few lines to let you know that we are all well at this time hoping these few lines may find you and all of the children enjoying the same Gods blessings. I have no news of importance to wright more than times and tolerable good in this country. Produce and stock of all kinds brings tolerable fair price except cattle they are verry low. Beef cattle are only worth 5 cents per lb. on foot. Horses are worth from $50.00 to $200.00 per head. Mules about the same. Sheep are all the go in this country now they are worth from $3 to $4 per head. Wool is worth from 22 to 30 cents per lb. Hogs are worth from 5 to 7 cts per lb. Wheat $1.60 cts per 100 lb. Barley is $1.40 cts per 100. hay from $12.00 to $15.00 per ton. I have sold my grane ranch in the valley and have bought me a stock ranch of 480 acres of land at Salt Spring Valley in the mountains and am raising stock. I have a good range in the mountains. I have not heard from Will for abot 2 months. They were all well then. Crops are looking verry well in this country up to this time but we have not had any rain for the last two months. The crops are begining to need rain berry much at this time and if we dont have any more rain this spring crops will be berry light. Death of D. Board

    Another old pioneer of this State has gone to his long rest.  David Board of Salt Spring Valley died at his home last Saturday after an illness of only a few days.  Mr. Board was one of the early settlers of California, having lived for many years in the valley.  He was a former resident of Stanislaus county and lived near the Twenty-six mile house on the Sonora road.  He leaves a family of seven grown children.  The remains were interred in the cemetery at Milton on Monday last.
