Cosmos Keller, Jr. was born on 27 September 1859 in Elsah (Jersey County), Illinois. He was the son of Cosmos and Dorathea Behrens) Keller. On 10 January 1888, in Jerseyville Illinois he married Mary Jane Knapp. They first lived in Elsah and later moved to Jerseyville where Cosmos was sheriff from 1890-94 & 1898-1902. In Jerseyville they lived at 601 W. Exchange Street. While Cosmos was sheriff Mary Jane was responsible for cooking meals for the prisoners in the jail. Cosmos died on 14 February 1918 in Jerseyville, Illinois. Both Cosmos and Mary Jane are buried at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville. The family was Catholic.

Jerseyville Republican, 14 February 1918: Cosmos Keller, born near Elsah 28 September 1860, was an office holder 16 years in which time he was sheriff twice and treasurer one term. In 1888 he married Mary Jane Knapp. Three children, one of whom died while young. Miss Frederica teaches school in Jerseyville and Miss Margaret is employed as bookkeeper at Brammeier's store which was owned by Mr. Keller until ill health caused him to give it up. Additional obituary: Jersey County Democrat 21 February 1918: Cosmos Keller, 58 years old, died at home on W. Exchange in Jerseyville. Funeral from church of the Holy Ghost. Burial in St. Francis cemetery. He had been prominent in politics and business in Jersey county for many years. He was sheriff of Jersey county in 1890, county treasurer in 1894, sheriff in 1898. Leaves wife and two daughters: Misses Frederica and Marguerite Keller of Jerseyville. He was native of Elsah, Jersey county. Father E. J. Eckhard had service. Pallbearers: W. J. Chapman, Wm. Powers, B. W. Akard, M .J. Dolan, Wm. Tracy, Jos. Schmieder, Thomas A. Kraus and August Mitzel.
