Frederica Dorathea Behrens was born on 14 December 1830. In the 1870 census she said that she was born in Hessen (Hesse)Germany. She died on 12 January 1877 in Elsah (Jersey County), Illinois. Dorathea and her husband are buried in the Elsah Township Cemetery in Elsah, Illinois. The few records that exist for her refer to her as Dorathea. Her tombstone refers to her as Dorathea Behrens Keller. The family bible of her daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Keller gives her name as Frederica Dorathea Behrens. German people had many names and usually were known by a middle name. She may be the Dorathea Behrens who arrived in New York on the ship Bastide. The ship traveled from Breman and arrived in New York on 4 Oct 1852. The ship record says that Dorathea Behrens age 23, arrived with George Behrens age 18, a shoemaker.
