Previously he had been in declining health for two years. He was born in Pine Meadows April 10, 1872, a son of Lewis and Amelia Smith Durgee, and as a young man was a lumberman in eastern end towns. On Jan. 13, 1896 he married Miss Mirandia Baker in the Catholic church at Harrisville, the Rev. J.C. Manning officiating. After leaving lumbering, he took up farming in this vicinity. He was a communicant of St. John's Catholic Church, Pulaski, and is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Matie Miller, Rome; Mrs. Eva Busek, Rome, Mrs. Dorothy Favret, Pulaski; two sons, Harry of Pierrepont Manor and Cornelius of Pulaski; one nephew Harold Durgee, Ilion; nine grandchildren... Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Syracuse Herald-Journal, 16 Sep 1948: C.W. DURGEE OF PULASKI DIES AT 72 Cornelius W. Durgee, 72 [!] , died Tuesday night at Crouse-Irving Hospital, Syracuse, after being in ill health for nearly two years... He was born April 10, 1872 at Pine Meadows, son of Lewis and Amelia Smith Durgee. He married Morandia Baker at the Harrisville Catholic Church Jan. 13, 1896, the Rev. J.C. Manning officiating. He was employed for several years thereafter in the lumber industry. He came to Pulaski with his family about 35 years ago, and in 1920 moved to the farm that is now the home, several miles south of the village on Route 11. Surviving, besides the wife, are three daughters, Mrs. Matie Miller of Rome, Mrs. Dorothy Favret of Pulaski, and Mrs. Eva Busek of Rome; two sons, Harry of Pierpont Manor and Cornelius of Pulaski, and nine grandchildren. Services will be held at the home at 9 a.m. tomorrow and at St. John's Church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery. References
