Lansing State Journal 12 December 1944 Mrs. Clara V. Bennett, 80 died at the home, 519 South Rogers Street, Mason, Thursday morning. She is survived by a son, David Bennett, of Mason; three daughters, Mrs. Roy Foster of East Lansing, Mrs. Harry Lefke of Lansing, and Mrs. Gertrude Mitchell of Mason, and a sister, Mrs. Ray Morgan of Bath, N.Y. She was a member of the Okemos Pioneer Club and of the Forrest Friendly Neighbors Club. The body was removed to the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral home where the funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday. Rev. Clarence Lawton of the Baptist Church in Mason will officiate. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery. Okemos Woman Dies After Long Illness Mrs. Clara Bennett, 80, the widow of Harvey L. Bennett, died at the home of her son, David Bennett on South Barnes street Wednesday night, following an illness of seven months. Funeral services will be held at the Gorsline-Runciman funeral hom in Lansing Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Glendale cemetery, Okemos. The Rev. Clarence A. Lawton, pastor of the Mason Baptist church, will officiate. Besides the son, at whose home she died, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Harry Lefke of Lansing, Mrs. Roy Foster of East Lansing and Mrs. Gertrude Mitchell of Mason; five grandchlidren, Mrs. Charles Rich and Mrs. Stanley Krentel of Detroit, Howard and Harvey Bennett of Mason and Mrs. Prosper Titus of Lansing. There are also three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bennett was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Spang and was born in Lansing March 31, 1886 [1866]. She married Mr. Bennett on June 5, 1889, and they made their home on a farm south of Michigan State college for 48 years. They then sold the farm and moved to Okemos where they lived for five years. On November 28, 1939, Mr. Bennett died, and two years ago Mrs. Bennett came to Mason to be cared for in her son's home. while residing in Okemos she was an active member in the Okemos Baptist church. |
