Facts and Events
Clara Jane Crockett, born in December of 1875, was the daughter of Charles Allen Crockett and Sarah Melissa Moyer. Her mother died in February of 1879 when Clara was only three years old, and her brother, John, was five. For a time, Clara lived with her father's sister, Libby Merring, and her husband David, who had fought in the Civil War. The Merrings had two adopted children, Lucy and Fisco. For some length of time after her brief time with the Merrings, Clara then lived with her mother's adoptive grandparents, John and Catherine Early, of Miamisburg, who had adopted her own mother, Sarah Melissa Moyer, when her parents had died at an early age. After Clara's father remarried to Cornelia Jane Dearth, Clara returned to live with her father and stepmother. There were two more children born to that household, to whom Clara was an older sister: Chester Dearth Crockett, born in 1889, when Clara was about fourteen and Carrie M. Crockett, born in 1891, when Clara was about sixteen. In June of 1894, Clara Crockett married Elmer Sheehan, a farmer in Montgomery County, and went to live with him in the house that Elmer's father and grandfather had built on Sheehan Road in Washington Township, near Centerville. To them were born four children: Charles "Dearth" Sheehan in 1894, Walter Lamar Sheehan in 1899, Suella Melissa Sheehan in 1903, and Alice Cornelia Sheehan in 1905. Clara Sheehan is buried in Section S of the Miamisburg Cemetery in Corwin, Ohio, with Elmer, and with their daughter, Alice her husband, Joe Morgan. |
