Before Elmer Sheehan and Clara Crockett married, they shared a family connection through the clan of Quaker Haineses that came to Warren County from New Jersey. Both were descended from Abram (Abraham) Haines and his wife, Grace Hollinshead, and they were fourth cousins, once removed.

Elmer is descended from Abram and Grace Haines, through their son, Isaac Haines (who married Deborah Roberts); through Isaac's son, John Haines (who married Jemima Brown); through John's daughter, Sarah Haines (who married Simeon Pine); through Sarah's daughter, Susan Jane Pine (who married James Sheehan). Elmer was the son of James Sheehan and Susan Jane Pine.

Clara is descended from Abram and Grace Haines, through their son, Abraham Haines (who married Sarah Ellis); through Abraham's daughter, Catherine Haines (who married John S.
