Christen Halvorsen and his brother Anders were both shoemakers and lived at Kåsa together with their parents.

Still alive at the census of 1900.

Christen Halvorsen Bergan (as he called himself – he is also called Christen Halvorsen Huset) represented her daughters from his first marriage living in East Lake Manistee, Michigan, North America in the division of inheritance the first of April 1890 after the grandparents of your great-grandmother Ingeborg Karoline. Our common great-great-grandmother Anne Andersdatter died 13th of February 1881 and our great-great-grandfather Lars Iversen died the second of December 1889.

During our visit to Melum this summer, we meet the present owners of “Store-Bergan” (i.e. Great Bergan) which in old days was the main part of Bergan farm. We found out that we have common relatives about 250 years back (our great-great-great-great-great-grandparents – Iver Larsen, 1704 – 1776 and Ingeborg Clausdatter, 1705 – 1789). Another thing which may bee of interest for you is that one of the great-grandmothers of the present owner of Store-Bergan (Carl Haukeli) was Kirsten Mathea Abrahamsdatter, who in her second marriage was married to your great-grandfather Christen Halvorsen. There was an old photo of this married couple at Store-Bergan, but unfortunately I did not know at that time that the man on this picture was your great-grandfather, so I took no photo of them. This I learn later on. Next time I visit the farm I will make a copy and send to you. (My wife and I have visited Store-Bergan twice this summer and we have been very well known with the family).
