Carolina married HENRY WILHELM HERMAN VEITH in Germany. Carolina, Henry, and their two small children sailed to America in 1865. They came on the same ship Henry Veith's brother, Herman Veith and family sailed. Carolina became ill on the ship. Her friend, Kleine and Karolyn Veith took care of her and the small children. Carolina's two children that made the trip to America died a short time after arriving in America. Their mother told the older child just prior to his death that he was going to heaven to be with Jesus. The child said, "No not yet" in German and then died in his mother's arms. In 1880, Henry and Carolina sold their property in Illinois and moved to Lawrence County, Missouri. Their first home in Lawrence County was two miles south and one and a half mile east of Stotts City, Missouri on what is known as the Kleine farm. When they arrived in Lawrence County, Missouri they found that their house had burned so they had to live in the smoke house. In 1882, they moved three miles west and one and half miles north of Stotts City. The farm stayed in the family until Henry's son, August, sold it to Elmer Sharon in 1941. The 1900 census shows Carolina living with her family in Vineyard Township, Lawrence County, Missouri. The 1910 census shows Carolina living with her family in Vineyard Township, Lawrence County, Missouri. Caroline died on January 7, 1935. She is buried in East View Cemetery, Lawrence County, Stotts City, Missouri. |
