CARL EARNEST HENRY BUHRMANN was born on July 20, 1848 in Mienden, Westphalia Province, Germany. He and his bride-to-be Louise Frederking came to America in 1869 on the same ship taking three months to cross the ocean. He emigrated from Bremen, Germany on the ship "Astenoui". He arrived in the port of New Orleans, Louisiana on September 15, 1969.

In Henry's Declaration of Intention to Become a Citizen he describes himself as 65 years old, a farmer, white, fair complexion, 5 feet and 6 inches tall. 135 pounds. His hair was brown that was slightly grey. He had blue eyes. He said he was born in Mienden, Germany on July 24, 1849 and was now a resident of Stotts City, Missouri. His papers were dated January 13, 1915.

Henry became a naturalized citizen in 1875.

Henry was a farmer.

Carl married LOUISE CHRISTINA FREDIEKING, the daughter of HENRY FREDIEKING and LOUISE, on April 25, 1878 in Washington County, Illinois.

After Henry and Louise were married they moved to a farm near Stott City, Lawrence County, Missouri.
