He is on the 1920 census, in Des Moines, Polk Co., Ia., age 31, "farming father's farm". In the home are also his parents, "D.F." and Sarah E. Rittgers. They have a boarder, Mary Holmquist, 67, a seamstress from Germany, who immigrated in 1875.[ED 84, p 4A, fa m #97/84] He continues in Webster Twp on Johnston Station Rd on the 1930 Census. He owns his farm, and has a radio. He is 41 and single. (ED 77-129, p. 4B, fam #96/98) He was a farmer and a veteran of WW I, a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Johnston Lions Club. We are told he never married. He owned a large farm that is now being developed into a housing development in Johnston, Polk Co., Ia.
