1913 September 24, Lake Benton Newspaper obituary: "Charley Julius Otto Mueller son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mueller, died Monday Sept. 22d at 4 o'clock a.m. He was born in the township Verdi Minn., Sept. 21st 1896. He was raised in our county, went to school in public and parochial schools, showing great ambition in his studies and was well liked on account of his pleasant conduct. As his parents was not wealthy he could not follow scholastic instruction, but was obliged to assist in sustaining the family and hired out at farm labor. Not long ago he was working in the field he attempted to lift a large stone and injured himself by means. A few days afterward he was confined to his bed, his body becoming paralyzed and after a few days suffering he died. The cause of death was myelitis. He arrived at the age of 17 years at his death. The parents were filled with deep sorrow but their cup of grief was further filled to overflowing on being informed that, owing to the nature of the disease with which the deceased was afflicted, they could not be permitted to hold a public funeral."
