On the 1850 census, District 27, Jackson County, Virginia, Ruth Arnold, age 15, and Martin V. Arnold, age 13, are both enumerated in the household of Thomas Maris and it was an assumption that Ruth and Martin are siblings. On the 1860 Census, district n/g, Jackson Co., Virginia, Martin V. Arnold is enumerated in his father's household, Benjamin Arnold and they are living NEXT HOUSEHOLD to the above Thomas Mairs/Maris and family. Benjamin is 65 yrs old, Thomas' wife Louisa is 38 yrs old and a possible daughter of Benjamin. Thomas and Louisa have named a son Benjamin.

Later: The typed death record of Rutha Arnold is found showing her parents as Benj. J. Arnold and Susan Arnold and the informant was Thomas MORRIS. And on the original handwritten record here: http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=5797140&Type=Death the informant is listed as Thos. Mairs, brother-in-law. This verifies that Thomas Mairs's wife Louisa is Benjamin's daughter!.
