Asa Reece Scott was only 3 weeks old when his mother Ann Jane Reece Scott died in 1889 at Warsaw, Mo.[13] When their mother died, David Garret Scott had to give Effie and her younger brother Asa to other people to take care of, as couldn't do so without a wife. When he was ready to move to Idaho, he went to get Effie, but was not able to get his youngest son, as the people who had taken him had moved to California, and the family didn't see him again until he was grown up.[14]
