Annie Singleton was born on 15th July 1862 at Allington in Lincolnshire, the eighth of eleven children of Eliza Worth Singleton, formerly Bonser, and her husband Robert Singleton, a coachman and groom. Her early childhood was spent in Allington until at least August 1871 when her youngest sister Ada Jane was born. By November 1872 the family had moved to Aston on Trent in Derbyshire, where Annie's mother Eliza died aged 46, when Annie was only ten years old.
After Eliza's death the family dispersed, with most of the children leaving home and going to live in a variety of places. Annie and her youngest sister Ada continued living with their father Robert and moved to Bainton in Northamptonshire, where Annie acted as his housekeeper. By 1891, Annie too had left home and was working as a cook for a dentist in the Marylebone area of London.
On 18th November 1895, aged 33, Annie married Alfred Floyd. He was a nurseryman florist and gardener, who appears to have lived in various locations close to but slightly removed from London where market gardening was a significant business to supply the London markets. He was a widower, having had four children with his first wife, Fanny Sulston, who had died in 1892. Annie and Alfred married at Farnborough in Kent, and had the first of their two children there.
Back in Bainton, Annie's father Robert died in 1901. Annie's sister Ada, who had been living with their father until his death, now moved down 100 miles south from Bainton to Farnborough to live with Annie and Alfred in Farnborough. Ada did not stay long - in March 1902 she was married at Farnborough to John Henry Cox from Barnack (the neighbouring village to Bainton) after which she went to live in Barnack.
Some time between 1901 and 1905, Annie and Alfred and their children left Farnborough and moved to Uxbridge, Middlesex, on the opposite side of London to Farnborough. Their third child was born in Uxbridge in 1905. Annie and Alfred appear to have stayed in Uxbridge for the rest of their lives. The 1911 census finds them living at 8 St Peter's Villas on Villier Street, where Alfred ran his nursery business.
At the outbreak of the Second World War they were living at 15 Partridge Villas on Cricket Field Road, just south of the town centre, and Alfred was described as retired.
Annie died on 4th January 1946, aged 83. Alfred was already severely ill himself at the time and he died just fourteen days later.
