1771 - 15th May - Botetourt Co., VA Court, pg 249 {10} John Walker of Orange Co., NC...hath nominated, constituted and appointed: "Well Beloved Brothers Samuel Walker and Joseph Walker" of the survivor of them, my true and lawful attorneyes "to sell" 471 acres of land...in two tracts lying in County of Botetourt on South Side of "Roan Oke" below the land of Alexander Ingrim to Andrew Armstrong of said County of Botetourt for sum of 225 pounds current County of Botetourt money of Virginia. At a court held for Botetourt County the 10th day of November, 1772. The Grand Jury appeared in court and were sworn, towit: Malcom Allen, Samuel Linsay, Aaron Collier, Jas. Bryants, William Robinson, Samuel Davies, Andw. Armstrong, William Galloway, John Neelly, John Kelly, James Davies, William Woolley, Jas. At a court held for Botetourt County the 11th day of February, 1779. A report of a road was made and returned by Andrew Armstrong, Samuel Crawford and John Griffeth agreeable to an order of this court. Ord. that the same be established accdg. to the report, and that John Neelly, junr. be appointed Surveyor thereof from Thomas Barnes' to General Lewis's, and the tithables on each side of said road from mountain to mountain to attend and work thereon when required.
At a court held for Botetourt County the 11th day of February, 1779. Ord. that Andrew Armstrong, Samuel Crawford, Daniel McNeil and David May or any three of them being sworn do view the way proposed by Nathaniel Evans & others from Thomas Barnett's to John Love's on Roan Oak, and also the old road, and report the conveniences & inconveniences of the said proposed roads to the court. At a court held for Botetourt County the 13th day of May, 1779. A report of a road was made and returned by Andrew Armstrong, David May, Samuel Crawford and Daniel McNeell. Ordered that the said road be established agreeable to the report from Thomas Barnes' passing by Nathaniel Evans' and into the main road near James Bryant's on Roan Oak, and that Nathaniel Evans with the tithables petitioning for said road open the same and keep it in repair as the law directs.
At a court held for Botetourt County the 13th day of May, 1779. The Commonwealth against John Patterson, a jury sworn to enquire into the offences supposed to have been committed, towit: Robert Preston, Wm. Anderson, Michael Ogletree, Edward Springer, Wm. Kyle, Thomas Miller, Jno. Taylor, James Anderson, John Jameson, William Walton, Andrew Armstrong & John Potts returned a verdict for the defendant and judgment that he should be acquitted of the charge.
