Alexander, named as the second son and heir-presumptive to the Kilsyth estates in the crown charter of 17 February 1539-40; and to whom his father had granted sasine of the lands of Over and Nether Inches on 20 December 1538. He was one of those Livingstons who were exempted by an order of the Privy Council from attending the army at Pinkiecleuch. He married, before 18 Sepember 1542, Barbara Forrester, parentage unknown, but probably related to his elder brother's wife, and was deceased before 9 August 1564, when his son James, a minor, was placed under the guardianship of his uncles James and John Livingston. This son was granted infeftment of the lands of Over and Nether Inches on 18 May 1565, and he subsequently acquired landed property in Glasgow and Falkirk. He married, about 12 December 1571, Helen, daughter of Robert Callendar of Ballincloich and his wife Marion Lindsay, and therefore a great-granddaughter of James, third Lord Livingston...
Alexander Livingston of Inches was evidently the father of Barbara Livingston, of the House of Kilsyth, who married (circa 1570) Master Alexander Livingston, Rector of Monyabroch (see Livingstons of Livingston Manor).
