In 1851 Alexander Buchanan (b.1851, Cambuslang) lived at Wellshott House, Cambuslang with parents Thomas Gray Buchanan, merchant (b.1805, Glasgow) and Mary (b.1816, Glasgow). Alexander was born about 1847 and died before 20jul1909; Alexander was a merchant, head of Buchanan and Wilson and Co. Ltd., Glasgow, antiquarian and genealogist (Glasgow Herald obituary at Univ. of Glasgow). He lived at Parkhill House which stands at the south west end of Polmont, Stirlingshire, built in abt 1790 and added to in the 19th century; it was the residence of the Gray-Buchanan family which became wealthy through their whisky firm. In 1871 Alexander W. Buchanan (b.1851, Cambuslang, merchants clerk, son of Thomas G. and Mary G. Buchanan) lived at Wellshot House, Cambuslang, and in 1891 at Parkhill House, Polmont with wife and children. References
