Received May, 2012 the one researcher who had the earliest history had the family moving from Berks Co PA to TN sometime after the Rev War. I base this on this particular genealogy showing Edward George III, as the grandfather of Alexander, having his last child, Samuel born in PA in 1776, while one of his daughters, Amy, married in Green Co TN in 1786. I know of no connection of the Alexander George family with my Georges at this time. As far as my George line -- William George Sr (or William George I) is listed by the early members of the family as being the father of William George Jr b 15 Feb 1771 VA and Benjamin George b Abt 1775 VA. William George Sr was said to be of Welsh extraction. Both Benjamin and Wm Jr came to Franklin Co IN prior to 1811 from VA. William George Sr may also have been with them as a tax list from 1811 from Franklin Co IN shows both a Wm Sr and a Wm Jr, as well as Benjamin George. What has not been found yet is the location and date of Wm Sr's birth and who his parents were or his wife(s). Wm Jr and Benjamin were said to have been born in Washington Co VA in 1771 and 1775 respectively. (Of course Washington Co was not formed until 1776 and the area would have been Fincastle Co at that time.) So I am not sure where they were born, but believe VA is accurate. William Jr's birth date of Feb 15, 1771 comes from a family bible believed to have belonged to Andrew George, a son of William Jr. I have not been able to locate this Bible, but believe the records in it are accurate. I have attached an excerpt of a booklet - The Lewis Family - Pioneers of Eastern Tennessee and Indiana Territory by David G Lewis 1928 and edited and compiled by Maunta G Miller. William George Jr's daughter, Nancy b. 05 July 1804, married David Lewis, Jr. This booklet contains the basis for a lot of the information you see on internet genealogies today for this George line. One of the excerpts is written by O.C George, who, I believe, started the misleading belief that these Georges were from Tazewell VA. Orion C. George who was born in 1845 was the great grandson of Wiliam George Jr and traveled to Abingdon, Washington Co VA sometime around 1900 and apparently discovered the family file of William George of Tazewell and "owned" it as our family. Easy to do, but I now believe this to be incorrect. The Tazewell William George was married to a Jennet Patton in Montgomery Co VA in 1793 and was instrumental in the formation and early history of Tazewell County, dying there in 1810. It's possible the Tazewell Georges are related but no evidence has been found to support it. Russel County VA is where the Georges are found that came to Franklin Co IN. Benjamin George married Martha Fugit (Fugate) and they are mentioned in the will of her father John Fugit (Fugate). William George Jr married Mary Bolin April 19, 1793, some say in Abingdon VA, but the records don't show it. The date of the marriage comes, I believe from the Bible mentioned earlier. Both the Fugate and Bolin families are found in Russell Co VA. And we also find that Benjamin and William were in the tax and other records of Russell Co at that time.
