- ↑ Cornelius was most likely the son of Richard Vanhorn and Charity Earle because:
1. He lived at Little River, as did Richard and Charity, owning 200 acres there. Other branches of Richard's family lived outside of Yarmouth County. 2. His given name was common in the Vanhorn family, as well as the name of his son, Reuben. Richard Vanhorn had brothers named Cornelius and Reuben, and both names were used even earlier in the ancestral tree. 3. His profession was mariner or fisherman, like Richard Vanhorn, and his sons. 4. In the 1838 Census, Richard Vanhorn lists one male born 1824 or earlier. (Both sons Alexander and Richard are listed separately, so Richard Sr. likely had a son born before 1824.
