Louis B. Bourie

Louis Bourie, son of Therese Boilard and Louis Bouret was born 6 October 1763 in Riviere Du Loup, Riviere Du Loup, (now) Quebec, Canada.

Louis died between March 22, 1818 and January 10, 1828, when his widow's claim for the above loss, is recorded in the Journal of the House.

Mary Francoise Meloche

Mary Francoise Meloche, daughter of Marie Louise Robert and Jean Baptist Meloche, was born 27 October 1778 on the Northeast coast of Detroit River at Bloody Run which is now known as Detroit, Michigan. Mary Francoise Meloche and Louis B. Bourie were married 13 October 1798 in St Anne's Church, Detroit, Michigan. In the Thursday January 10, 1828 the Journal of the House (US House of Representatives) the following was recorded: “On the motion of Mr. Smith of Indiana, Resolved, That the Committee on Indian Affair be instructed to inquire into the expediency of allowing to Frances Felix, late Frances Boure, widow of the late Louis Boure, of Territory of Michigan, deceased, a compensation for a quantity of valuable personal property of said Louis Boure, taken and carried away from him in his life time, by Indians at war with the United States; and that the papers relative to said claim, be referred to that committee. We see from this reference that Mary went by Frances and that she had remarried after Louis's death to a Mr. Felex.

1) Louis Bouret

Louis Bourie was born on September 1, 1799 in Detroit. He died in 1800 and was buried on January 11, 1800 in Detroit at the age of three months.

2) John Baptiste Bourie

John Baptiste Bourie, Sr. was born March 25, 1801 in his father's trading post at present Elkhart, Indiana. His father was Louis B. Bourie and it is believed that his mother was a Miami or Potowatomi Indian. However, in 1801 John Bourie was christened in Detroit where his father and his father's wife, Mary Francoise Meloche Bourie maintained a home.

3) Marie (Mary) Ann Bourie

Mary Ann "Nancy" Bourie was born on July 25, 1805 in Detroit. Mary Ann married John P. Hedges about 1823. Nancy Hedges is mentioned in the November 26, 1833 US Treaty with the Chippewa as having received a sum of money. Her siblings, John B., David, Caroline Bourie Ferry, Harriet Bourie Ewing are also mentioned in the document.S4 Nancy died between 1843 and 1850.

4) Harriet or Henrietta Bourie

Harriet Bourie was born on October 1, 1810 in Detroit. Harriet died in January 1847 in St. Louis, Missouri.

5) David Proctor Bourie

David Bourie, son of Mary Francoise Meloche and Louis B. Bourie, was born in 1811 in the Detroit area which would become the State of Michigan in 1837. In 1811, our county’s fourth president, James Madison was in office and the US was busy with a war with the Indians (Native Americans) at the Battle of Tippecanoe in the nearby Indiana Territory which would become a State in 1816. Detroit and upper Indiana would be the home of the Bourie family for the next century.

6) Caroline Therese Bourie

Caroline Therese Bourie, daughter of Mary Meloche and Louis B. Bourie, was born September 18, 1814 (or 1813) (or 1815) in Troy or Detroit, Michigan Territory. Caroline died in January 1915
