Louis B. Bourie

Louis Bourie, son of Therese Boilard and Louis Bouret was born 6 October 1763 in Riviere Du Loup, Riviere Du Loup, (now) Quebec, Canada. Mary (Maria) Francoise Meloche and Louis B. Bourie were married 13 October 1798 in St Anne's Church, Detroit, (now)Wayne, Michigan.

A glimpse of their lives is given in the 1889 obituary of their son, Dr.David P Bourie.

"His father and mother (Louis B Bourie and Mary Frances Meloche) were French-Canadians, born at Montreal, Canada. His father was a silversmith and was doing business in Detroit during the War of 1812 when the British and their Indian allies partially burned the town and plundered the inhabitants. His father suffered among the rest, and much of his property was stolen and destroyed, among the articles stolen from him by the Indians being several articles of silverware, cups, spoons, etc. Several years after Dr. Bourie had moved to this county, he recovered many of these articles from the Indians who were then roaming around here, being enabled to identify them by his father’s initials which were engraved upon them, and some of these silver articles are now in the possession of his daughter, Mrs. John Biddle of Ligonier (Noble Coutny, Indiana)."

Louis died between March 22, 1818S1 and January 10, 1828, when his widow's claim for the above loss, is recorded in the Journal of the House.S2,I1
