The Memorial of John SlafterS1 states that John married "Naomi, dau. of Abraham Rice of Killingly, Ct., Nov. 25, 1805. She was b. Dec. 1, 1789." It says they ended up in North Fairfield, Ohio. Their children were as follows:

1. Almira, b. Dec. 3, 1806; m. James Murry.
2. Alzada, b. Jan. 25, 1808; m. Richard Commins.
3. John, b. Feb. 9, 1810, m. Harriet Butler.
4. Eleazar-Arnold, b. Aug. 12, 1811; d. Oct. 12, 1831.
5. Abigail-Caroline, b. Feb. 13, 1814; m. Hosea Shippee.
6. Wakeman-Rice, b. Feb 21, 1815; m. Sarah-Ann Probasco.
7. Cynthia, b. March 21, 1819, m. Ira Wood.
8. David-Ames, b. Aug. 21, 1818, m. Adaline Shippee.
9. Jane-Lucretia, b. Dec. 25, 1821, m. Otis Shippee.
10. Abraham, b. Aug. 28, 1824, m. Esther-Ann Turwellager.
11. Beulah, m. James-Gardiner Mead.
12. Silas, b. Oct. 20, 1827, m. Julia-Minerva St. John.

This family appears in the 1840 US CensusS2 for Huron Co., Ohio, as:

John Slater: males: (1) 5-10 yrs, (2) 10-15 yrs, (2) 15-20 yrs, (1) 20-30 yrs, (1) 50-60 yrs; females: (1) 10-15 yrs, (1) 50-60 yrs.
John Slater Jr: males (1) 20-30 yrs, females (1) 20-30 yrs.

The family name had been generally spelled "Slaughter" in Rhode Island and Connecticut, but they appeared to be using "Slater" by the time they moved to Ohio, which is how it was carried forward from this generation on.
