Jan. 28, 1841; m. 2d, Mary-Ann, dau. of William Everngin of North Fairfield, Ohio, Nov. 20, 1842; she was b. Mach 21, 1825, d. Nov. 25, 1855; m. 3d, Isabella-Parker, dau. of Thomas Crow of Chatham, U.C. [sic], Aug. 9, 1856; she was b. May 22, 1822. He enlisted in Comp. B, 123 Ohio Vols., Aug. 18, 1862, discharged June 30, 1865. North Fairfield, Ohio.

He never spelled his name Slafter, but many genealogies show him as "Slafter" drawing on the Memorial of John Slafter, which does not specifically indicate how the original surname got modified down the generations. He and his father were both "Slater" in Ohio as they appear on the census of 1840, and he in 1850.
