From the memoir of grandson Don Taylor:S3

Archie married Susan Penny who came from West Coker in Somerset, England. My mother Elizabeth, her sister Mary Jane who was called Maisie and brother William were born to Archie and Susan Sherratt. It was left to Susan, who must have been an extraordinary woman, to raise and educate the three children alone because Archie, a very colorful character, was loathe to settle down and be responsible. He was later killed in a bar fight in Prince Rupert BC in western Canada.

The family appears together in 1881S2, but a 1920 US Census entry indicates that Susan emigrated to the US in 1894 (presumably with her then late-teen children). Archie is found alone in British Columbia by 1901. It is not known if his family followed him to BC, or stayed behind in Nichol (seems more likely).

Archibald Sherratt, 33, residing and born in Ennotville (Nichol), bachelor, blacksmith, son of Archibald Sherratt; Susan Penny, 19, residing in Ennotville, born in England, spinster, daughter of William Penny and Ann Wilkis; witnesses John McDonald and Mary L Penny of Ennotville; March 23rd 1872*, at residence of bride's father; Presbyterian groom, Episcopalian bride; by Jas B Mullen, Min., Fergus; Tp of Nichol, Wellington. (* The marriage date clearly looks like 1872, but it is on a page with others in 1873. However, the first daughter was born in Feb 1873, so they probably were married in 1872.) (Note: The "Mary L Penny" witness is probably Susan's sister Mary Jane Penny. The "at the residence of the bride's father" must have meant her uncle Henry Penny who took her and her sister in after their parents had died back in England.)
