SNODDY, TITUS BANKS of Washington, D. C, b. in Smith co , Tenn., Dec. 12, 1863, grad. Goodman's Business Coll., Nashville, Tenn., 1888, teacher there 1888-9, appointed to a clerkship in Navy Dept. July 14, 1889;

Son of William of Smith co., Tenn., b. there Nov. 16, 1818, d. there Mar. 27,1884, farmer and mechanic (m. Sep. 13, 1843, Manerva [dau. of John and Olef Green [Randolph] Dawson of Chesterfield co., Va.], and had eight children: Samantha, Titus B., James, John, William, Thomas, Joseph and Stephen, d. June 9, 1885);

Son of Thomas of Smith co., Tenn., b. in Va. Feb. 12, 1782, d. in Smith co., Tenn., 1855, farmer, moved from Va. to Tenn. 1815 (m. Sally Sampson of near Lynchburg, Va.);

Son of John of Va., b. there Sep. 15, 1746, d. in Va. (m. Mar. 17. 1779), Elizabeth Sampson, b. in Va. south of Lynchburg, and had nine children, three boys and six girls);

Son of John of Pa. and Va., b. in Scotland, d. in Va., was of Scotch-Irish desc. and a Presbyterian, emigrated to America abt. 1743, first settled in Pa. but removed to Buckingham co., Va., in 1758, thence to Washington co. where he died (m. Oct. 7, 1741, Agnes Glasgow of Scotland and had eleven children, eight boys and three girls).

There are two other families of Snoddy's in the U. S. One is desc. from James Snoddy who settled in Rowan Co., N. C, long before the Revolution, and the other from James Snoddy who came from the north of Ireland and settled in Pa. abt. one hundred years ago. All are of ScotchIrish desc. and have a common ancestry at the time of the Bruce and Wallace wars in Scotland.
