[edit] CommentaryThis record is presumed to be for Person:Stockton Heth (1), whose DOB is commonly given as 1839. Stockton is a person of minor historical importance, having served in the command of his elder brother Brig. Gen. Henry Heth, at Gettysburg. His father, John Heth, appears in the 1840 census with a substantial family (12 members), but there are no other Stockton's in the area in 1840. John is said to have died in 1843, and there are no Stockton's in the area in the 1850 census, either under the "Heth" or "Heath" spelling of the name. Given the large size of his family we presume that the children were dispersed among various family members. Stockton, and his sister Mary, are shown in the above census record living in the household of Richard CUnningham, and wife Virginia, in Culpepper county. In 1860 Census Stockton and sister Mary are still in the household of Richard and Virginia. We presume that Richard and Virginia are kinsmen, but what their exact relationship to Stockton might be, is not clear.
