Commentary

This record is presumed to be for Brig. Gen. Henry Heth, brother of Person:Stockton Heth (1). Henry's DOB is commonly given as 1836. His father, John Heth, appears in the 1840 census of Culpepper county VA, with a substantial family (12 members). John is said to have died in 1843, and there are no Stockton's in the area in the 1850 census, either under the "Heth" or "Heath" spelling of the name. Given the large size of his family we presume that the children were dispersed among various family members. Henry, and a brother Joseph, are shown living in the household of John B. and Emeline Martin in Gloucestrer County, VA. We presume that John and Emeline are kinsmen, but what their exact relationship to Henry might be, is not clear.

Key:
Purple: Chesterfield County Virginia where Stockton was born in 1839, and lived until sometime after his fathers death in 1843.
Red: Culpepper County, Virginia, where stockton was living in 1850 with the family of Richard and Virginia Cunningham.
Green: Montgomery County, where Stockton lived after the Civil War.
