This page has been added to facilitate data collection in support of the Old Chester Project within the Tapestry. Its focus is on unpatented lands in Cecil County Maryland.
Portions of this area were considered by Pennsylvania authorities to lie within Chester County until the border dispute between the two states was settled. When looking at residents in the area of Old Chester it is useful to look at Cecil County Maryland records.
Land records for Cecil County Maryland are available on line through the Maryland State Archives. Current (October 2009) this data set is not indexed by the name of the owner, and each individual entry has to be examined in order to see if a given person has an included parcel of unpatented land. The following tabulation is an extraction of the data, alphabetized by the name of the owner. If there are multiple owners, they are included separately in the listing, but not included in the alphabetization. The included links will take you to an image of the record in question, but requires a registration with Maryland State archives.
The Maryland archives includes about 600 certificates for unpatented lands. The following tabulation indexes the first 100 of these certificates. Additional certificates will be added time permitting.
