[edit] AnalysisA point of interest for the Snoddy family in Southwest Virginia is the relationship between Gentleman Person:John Snoddy (4) of Abingdon (index 3 below), and Captain person:John Snoddy (1) of Castle's Woods (not listed as such in Carol's set). They may be connected to Samuel Snoddy who settled near Fort Dobbs, NC. Carol points out that he had a brother John. John died in 1758, but also had a son John. Current data suggests that this son also died fairly young, and so neither is the John Snoddy in SWVA. There is also a possible SW VA connection through Christopher Huston who settled in this same area and is widely thought to be related to Ann Houston wife of John Walker III of the Wigton line. John III settled in the Castle's Woods area where Captain John Snoddy settled. In another connection, a John Mitchell married one of Christopher Huston's daughters. He's connected to the Dryden's in an obscure way, who settled near Abingdon about the same time as number 3 Gentlemman John Snoddy. The Dryden's have at least business connections with some of the Castle's Woods families. All very tenuous, but suggestive of a deeper family connection. In this regard number 2, John Snoddy who married Jane Cowan is also of interest, because three of John III's daughters married Cowan's about this same time period.
