Analysis

In 1808 James Maxwell testified ^[1]that he first came to Tazewell County in 1772, located a parcel of land, and subsequently brought his family to live at that location until 1784. His will ^[2] leaves a bequest to his wife Jane. Testimony of a greatgranddaughter, based on stories told her by her grandfather ^[3] identifies his wife's last name as "Roberts". Assuming that he did not marry twice, it can be concluded that he married Jane Roberts sometime before 1772.
