Next step: Review your GEDCOM [10 November 2012]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Brando Family Tree.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Corrections for John Alexander Quick Profile [3 January 2018]

Hello the Watcher of the John Alexander Quick Tree:

I write to request corrections to the John Alexander Quick tree.

First allow me to deal with his parents Cornelius Quick and Sarah Crishan (spelled with an “N” not an “M”).

1 Sarah Crishan’s first husband Adolphus died in 1753. Sarah asked Cornelius Quick to help her administer her husband’s estate, and as a result of that task married, we think, Cornelius Quick later in 1753. Their first child, the man people call “John Alexander Quick” was born, we think, in 1754.

2 Cornelius Quick had his will written in 1787. In this will he names his children: John (the man people call “John Alexander Quick) (1754), Catherine (1756), Elizabeth (1758), Rebecca (1760), Jamaima (1762), Mary (1764), Sarah (1759), Tunis (1773), and Hannah (1775). These dates of birth are all approximate. The first 7 children were by his first wife, Sarah Crishan, the last 2 by his second wife, Elizabeth (Hall, Holliday) Quimby. He married his second wife after his first wife died.

3 Cornelius Quick (who I call #1) did NOT have children Moses, Canzada, and Isaac. These 3 children, who perhaps appear on hundreds of websites incorrectly, were the children of a SECOND Cornelius Quick who lived in Pennsylvania around the same time as Cornelius #1. The mother of his children was Susanna. After Susanna and Cornelius #1 died, he married Elizabeth (Hall, Holliday, Quimby) Quick.

4 The man people call “John Alexander Quick” never did have a middle name. That name was ascribed to him by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren mistakenly in stories submitted to a publication in 1905. The historical information in that publication (“The Commemorative Biographical Record of Essex County”) has been largely discredited. No document of any kind has been found with the name “John Alexander Quick”, only “John Quick”.

5 John Quick must have married Elizabeth (surname unknown) around 1778 because we are pretty sure their first child was born in 1779.

6 John Quick left a will in 1820. In this will he names his 9 children in birth order (boys first then girls): Cornelius (1779), John (1781), Joseph (1782), David (1784), Alexander (1795), Elijah (1796), Sarah (1784), Elizabeth (1785), Mary (1786). All these dates are approximate. The boys’ year of birth are supported by the ages they give on their Upper Canada land petitions. It was unlikely for a man to fabricate information on a land petition.

7 John Quick did NOT have children William, John W. (just John), Solomon or Alexander G. (just Alexander).

The proof for all of these statements can be found on my tree “The John Quick Extended Family” on ancestry.com. I do not repeat hearsay or gleanings from member family trees. I am determined to get people to correct misinformation on their Quick family trees so as to minimize the mass of misinformation that is being spread. If you do not have access to ancestry I am prepared to send you a printout of my tree in the mail.

Corrections to John Alexander Quick Profile [13 January 2018]

Hello Manager of the profile for John Alexander Quick:

You have a number of errors on your profile for this person. I am hoping you will correct them so they do not get repeated to new researchers. You can find the proof of what I have to say in several places - my tree “The John Quick Extended Family” on ancestry.com, and on the profiles I manage on Geni and WikiTree.

1 John Quick (he did NOT have a middle name) was born around 1754.

2 His mother was, we think, Sarah Crishan, but she and Cornelius Quick were not married until around 1753 so John could not have been born until around 1754. Sarah was the widow of Adolphus Crishan who died in 1753. We do not know her maiden name.

3 Cornelius Quick left a will in 1791 in which he names 9 children: John (b abt. 1754), Catherine (b abt. 1756), Elizabeth (b abt. 1758), Rebecca (b abt. 1760), Jamaima (b abt. 1762), Mary (b abt. 1764), Sarah (b abt. 1759), Tunis (b abt. 1773), and Hannah (b abt. 1775). He did NOT have children Moses, Canzada and Isaac. The latter three children belong to a different Cornelius Quick.

4 John Quick was married, we think, around 1778. This would be consistent with his first child being born in 1779.

5 John Quick left a will in which he names 9 children: Cornelius (b abt. 1779), John Jr. (b abt. 1781), Joseph (b abt. 1782), David (b abt. 1784), Aleander (b abt. 1795), Elijah (b abt. 1796), Sarah (b abt. 1784), Elizabeth (b abt. 1785) and Mary (b abt. 1786). He did NOT have a child William or Solomon. The children given as “John W.” should be just “John”, “Alexander G.” should be just “Alexander.

I will stop here. I will stop by your tree from time to time to check on corrections. I will keep this note handy in case I need to repeat it.

Best regards Stuart Quick (direct descendant of John Quick)--Quicksmq 17:04, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
