Doty, etc. [13 April 2008]

I'm not a Doty researcher either. My focus the last couple of weeks has been on merging early New England families.--Jrm03063 16:03, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Samuel Vanstone [23 August 2008]

Hi,

I'm doing some genealogical research and have come to a dead end.

I'm wondering if you can refer or point me to some sites that may lead information to get my search going again.

Specifically, I'm interested in the Samuel Vanstone families. I know they had a mill there, and were active in the Darlington County community.

I'm trying to establish whether not there is father/son relationship between two people in my research. I've been using familysearch.org and haven't had any luck yet. I realize that often there are indeed children in a family, but they don't seem to be recorded.

The names are:

Samuel Vanstone

born April 23 (or 3), 1829 in Torquay, Devon England
married Dorothy Venning on March 27, 1851 in Clovelly, Devon, England
died May 11, 1874 in Darlington Township, Ontario

I'm trying to verify if he is the son of

Samuel Vanstone

born Feb 20, 1801 or 1803 in Devonshire, England
married Mary Stevens June 26, 1820 in England

Any advice or help you can offer would be very gratefully appreciated.

Charlotte--Cgorley 17:55, 22 August 2008 (EDT)

I have posted a page for Samuel Van Stone and Mary Stevens and added cross-references to your text. They do have a son named Samuel but unfortunately his information does match the data you provide. There were numerous Van Stones in the area and they seemed awfully fond of the name Samuel. I looked through my data to see if I could find a match, but could not. Sorry.

If you do find that you are related to Samuel Vanstone, b 1801 there is an interesting surprise in store. His mother is Elizabeth Walter. She is descended from Richard Walter whose sister Lucy was a mistress to King Charles I. --Srblac 11:19, 23 August 2008 (EDT)

[10 March 2009]

Hi - In early February you updated pages in my family tree re: Israel Lewis, Susan Gaines, Susan Lewis, Solomon Lewis, etc. The Lewis' are ancestors of my maternal grandfather (Anthony Lewis Oswald). Anthony is the son of Myrtle Lewis, who is Israel Lewis's granddaughter and Solomon Lewis' daughter. How are you connected to this family?

I am new to WeRelate -- actually I uploaded my tree here just to give it a whirl and compare it to other wiki-based genealogy sites. I am an avid fan of wikis (and administer/support my employer's corporate wiki), so I really want to choose a wiki-based solution that works well. I've only dabbled in WeRelate thus far, but once my sister and I make our final choice of a wiki tool, then boy, do I have lots of updates to do!

So far I like WeRelate, although some of my family members may not want to learn MediaWiki markup techniques and thus I may have to do the editing myself.

How are you liking WeRelate? Have you worked with other wiki-based genealogy sites, like GENI?

Thanks! Betsy Walker--H259bws 21:01, 4 March 2009 (EST)

I'm not the Lewis descendant, my wife is. Her grandmother is Gertrude Watkins. Gertrude's great-grandmother is Sidney Lewis.

Watkins Lineage
Gen Image Family
GP) Person:Gertrude Watkins (2)
1GP) Family:Daniel Watkins and Lottie Webb (2)
2GP) Family:Thomas Watkins and Sidney Lewis (2)

Sidney's father is James Lewis, her grandfather is Solomon Lewis, and her aunt and uncle are Family:Israel Lewis and Susan Gaines (2).

I like WeRelate so much, I have chosen to dedicate a great deal of effort to it. I'm still working my through my wife's family but I've done a lot with mine. Check my great-grandmother's page to give you an idea of what can be done. The reason I like WeRelate is number one, it is a wiki. There are things you can do with a wiki that don't work any other way. Also very important, is that it the folks who run it are totally dedicated to genealogy. They have done some great things to make this not just a wiki, but a genealogy wiki. I've used ancestry.com a lot and I've always wished we could splice it all together somehow. WeRelate is that somehow.

I hope you'll decide to stick around. There are great folks involved here.--Srblac 21:46, 9 March 2009 (EDT)

Butt in Illinois [5 February 2010]

How far back does the Butts in Illinois go and where do they originate from?--DButt 21:46, 4 February 2010 (EST)

Hey Dan. Nice to hear from you again. I believe our mutual ancestor is Joseph Butt who came from England to Huron County Ontario. His son Charles migrated to Bay County Michigan in 1890. His son Charles Jr moved to Chicago somewhere between 1900 and his marriage there in 1909. Many of his children stayed in the Chicago area. They are all deceased now. While there are third, fourth generation (and at least one fifth) descendants left in the area, between girls changing their names for marriage and boys either moving away or dying childless I don't think there are any more of our line in Chicago with the Butt name.--Srblac 17:20, 5 February 2010 (EST)

Next step: Review your GEDCOM [3 April 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded THOS HYDE ANCESTORS.GED, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

mmm3m.ged appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [9 September 2010]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Click on Trees in the "My Relate" menu, then click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in the tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler soon.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

Van Stone's [22 October 2010]

I have a lot of information on the Van Stone's. I am one of them and appear to be of close relation to you. I am descended from John & Urssla via their son William and his son William II and his son Alberto. I can trace our family back another 3 generations and have circumstantial evidence that would go back further. Renaming Family pages [5 February 2012]

Hello Srblac, I noticed that you are renaming Person pages to include the word Unknown. You may already know this, but I wanted to note that you will need to rename the Family pages as well. For example, you renamed Person:Catherine Unknown (811), but the Family:John Burkhart and Catherine Burkhart (2) will need to be renamed to match. You can easily locate the pages you have renamed by clicking here. If you have any questions, just let me know. Thank you, --Jennifer (JBS66) 08:45, 5 February 2012 (EST)

I noticed that too, just about the time I was almost finished. Sigh. I'm going back through the list to fix them now. Thanks.--srblac 08:48, 5 February 2012 (EST)

Joseph Nelson Hicks [24 July 2013]

I've tried to upload a jpg of the marriage certificate for Joseph Nelson Hicks and Eliza Jane Graham but it is too difficult to put all the required info, so, to let you know they married on 11 Jan 1872 in Olney, Richland Co, IL.

Margaret (Mary) Hagerty [24 October 2016]

Hi Srblac,

I am interested in your Person, Margaret (Mary) Hagerty. I am a Hagerty myself, and have recently begun a Hagerty tree - though I have little time available at present.

My Dad told me that the Hagertys were an Irish clan - quite a wealthy clan. They continued, he said, to live by Irish clan law, in which all homes and farms were owned by the clan and allocated as appropriate: until one man rebelled, determined to own his home, and impoverished the clan by fighting a very lengthy legal battle. The legal outcome was that English law had to prevail. I don't know the time of this sad event.

It is very likely that all Hagerty (and Hegarty, Haggerty etc people) throughout the World are related. It also follows that the Clan would have been Roman Catholic, but of course people do convert. In the Westmeath neighbourhood where my grandparents grew up, Catholics and Protestants socialized freely, and my grandparents' marriage was a mixed one. It was a mixed one in which the children were brought up Anglican by their staunchly Protestant Wilson mother.

If you could find your Margaret in the 1911 census, you might discover where in Ireland she was born: in England, at least, Irish born respondents began to state the district of birth with this census.

There is a feature called 'Hagerty's Peak' in Antarctica! - See Wikipedia.

Best Wishes, --Helen-HWMT 07:22, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

WeRelate does not allow pages for living individuals [20 March 2020]

Hi

My condolences on the loss of your father. I just updated his page to add his dates.

Please note that WeRelate policy does not allow pages for living individuals, even without dates. I note that you have pages for yourself, your wife and your in-laws, all of whom appear to be living. I will need to delete these pages, or have you delete them. I didn't want to go ahead with that before giving you a chance to move the charts to another place - maybe your user page, although I note you have similar info there.

Please make whatever updates you would like, and then delete the pages for living individuals. (Delete function is under "more" in the left-hand menu.)

Note that we can't make exceptions for people who choose to have their pages on WeRelate, as this makes administration of the site too difficult.

If you need more than a month to make the changes, please let me know, so that I can delay follow up. Thanks.--DataAnalyst 21:50, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Ambrose Allen [21 May 2022]

I was wondering if I missed something. You mention a Cooper genealogy. Do you have that? I'm looking for an Ambrose Allen and coincidentally the record that mentions him is in Culpeper Co., VA.

Any help appreciated.

Pages without dates [17 December 2021]

Hi

WeRelate is becoming more rigorous about enforcing its policy on living people. As a result, it no longer allows trees without dates. If you have dates for any of the people below, please enter them. Otherwise, their pages will be deleted in about a month. Or you can delete them yourself. If you need more time, please let me know. Thanks--DataAnalyst 16:37, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
