Theophilus Bleak (Blake) [21 January 2012]

We are researching Theophilus Bleak (Blake) found in the record book of William Pim His Book 1739 for Recording Assignments of Servants, etc in 1745 with 2 entries. The first: 27 4th month James Bredin assignd Theophilas Blake to Thomas Brown bound 6 yrs from ye 28 3rd month last. The second entry: 15 5th month Thophilus Blake & margret his wife Bound themselves to Hugh Heny for 3 yrs each from the 28th of last month without freedom over & to live together.

He is found on Chester County tax records beginning in 1749 and last found in 1760. He applied for 300 acres of land on Fishing Creek between Blue Mountain and Second mountain in Lancaster county (now Dauphin County) just north of Harrisburg and a few short miles from the Susquehanna River.

He is found in Bath County, Virginia in 1795 and he and his family moved back and forth between this part of Virginia and West Virginia near the New River.

Past researchers have mistakenly linked our Blake line to the line of the Theophilus Blake of Hampton, New Hampshire. DNA testing has proven that these are two separate and distinct men.

We are working with the Blake One Name Study found at: http://www.one-name.org/profiles/blake.html and the Blake DNA Project at: http://blakeheritage.yolasite.com/iframe6.php

We are forming a group of Blake researchers working on this line and would welcome all who would wish to join the effort in finding the ancestral line of this Blake family.
