Mason Stuff.... [26 June 2009]

Wow...are you a remote descendent of Daniel Mason???--Jrm03063 13:34, 24 June 2009 (EDT)

Just found WeRelate yesterday and am attempting to figure out the website... Yes - I am a descendent of Daniel Mason. His son, Oliff Mason, was my gr-gr-grandfather. Oliff and his wife, Sadie Garland, had twins - Alta and Alton Mason. Alta's only child is my grandmother (still alive and living in Maine). I hope to figure out how to enter that information in to the info you already have. I can't seem to figure out how to change the title of Alta from "Living:Mason" to Alta Mae Mason, etc. Anyhow - I'll work on it.--Serena a morrison 19:56, 24 June 2009 (EDT)

That's great. Changing the page name (not the fields when editing data) is done w/"Rename" up on the tool bar. I think I've taken care of what you wanted, including fact-list notation of twin status. Please review my work and feel free to take it from there!!! (Pictures are great to add if you have any!)--Jrm03063 21:04, 24 June 2009 (EDT)

One more thing - as genealogy software goes, werelate is a little tough learning-curve wise. You're forced to deal with learning "wiki" formatting and the werelate-specific genealogy details at the same time. But if you stick with it, I'm sure you'll find there's nothing like it. I was an ancestry.com user, and was intending to set up something on my home machine since I'm a cheap-skate. I tried a bunch of different things on a trial basis, but was always disappointed. I dropped all that when I found that I could get a better system, a web presence, and potential collaboration w/WR - all for free. I havn't looked back since. So hang in there, and don't be afraid to ask for help. Good Luck!--Jrm03063 21:11, 24 June 2009 (EDT)

Oh, oh, oh - yet another one more thing. I'm descended from Daniel Mason via Horace Mason and my Grandfather, James C. Mason. My Grandfather said that the East Conway Farm House was built by Daniel. So I presume that Oliff was born there as well.--Jrm03063 21:26, 24 June 2009 (EDT)

Thanks for all your help... I admit that I am not terribly computer savvy. I guess that means that we are distant cousins! Are you still in Maine?--Serena a morrison 20:53, 25 June 2009 (EDT)

My Dad has spent Summers in S. Portland for a number of years now. I'm part of the Massachusetts/128 tech-belt rat race, commuting out of Nashua. My branch of the family stayed mostly in the Conway, NH area though.--Jrm03063 21:07, 25 June 2009 (EDT)

GEDCOM Export Ready [2 July 2009]

The GEDCOM for tree Default is ready to download. Click here.

Hello, again! I am attempting to export our family tree (gedcom file) into my family tree maker on my computer. It seems that the only way I can do that is to get it emailed from whoever controls the tree? Is that you? Is there another way to do it? Thanks! Serena--Serena a morrison 21:06, 1 July 2009 (EDT)

I think I see what you're trying to do. I just took a look at the GEDCOM generated though, and I don't think you're getting quite what you expect. I'll see what I can come up with for you...--Jrm03063 21:27, 1 July 2009 (EDT)

Here's what I've done. I started a new tree at Oliff, collected the descendents and went back ten generations (where they exist). I'm going to generate that GEDCOM and download it myself. Send e-mail to me directly (I'm breaking this into two parts so it can't readily be sniffed....) User name "jrm03063", same as here, with the mail account hosted "@comcast.net". I'll reply with the GEDCOM download attached.
