Next step: Review your GEDCOM [23 October 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Delaware Dodds_2010-10-23.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Gedcom warnings [26 October 2010]

Hello and welcome to WeRelate. Thank you for handling your gedcom upload so promptly. I've been working on it and I think we would like to ask you to make another pass at the warnings. There are some obvious errors that we would prefer be cleaned up prior to import. WeRelate is not a gedcom collection. Your data will be added to the shared database and web pages are created for each Person, Family and Source you added. Please focus on the items with warnings of date conflicts: events before birth or after death, parents too young or too old, children dates, etc. These usually indicate errors that can be fixed. I have returned your file to the user review status. You can edit pages in the bottom pane of the screen. Or you may choose to fix the problems back in your Ancestry data and send a new gedcom which can save doing double work. If you have any questions, you can reply to this message here. I will be watching your page. Thanks. --Judy (jlanoux) 10:42, 26 October 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

Hello, I see that you are making another go. I realize that it will take a while to clean up such a large file and Ancestry doesn't export in parts. Some users run their file through a free program (such as PAF) so they can work on and export smaller branches. Let us know how it's going. If you have any questions, you can leave a message reply here. I will be watching. --Judy (jlanoux) 11:29, 5 November 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)
