Next step: Review your GEDCOM [1 January 2012]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded mywikitree.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Find a Grave images [4 January 2012]

Hello, I am a volunteer administrator here on WeRelate. I noticed that you have added photos from Find A Grave. Photos from Find A Grave are not public domain. Unless there is clear indication on the image page that you either took the photograph or have permission from the copyright owner to use it on WeRelate (including agreeing to WeRelate's licensing), it will need to be deleted. Please see our policy here.

The best way to include those types of images is to link to the memorial page. For example, on the page for Levi Pettis, you could enter this in the text area: Photo of Levi's gravestone on {{Fgravemem|54316243|Levi M. Pettis}}. The link would look like this:

Photo of Levi's gravestone on Levi M. Pettis

Images can be deleted by clicking on More>delete from the image page. Please let me know if you have any questions. --Jennifer (JBS66) 08:48, 4 January 2012 (EST)

Digital copyright is a drag... Fixed, thanks for the heads up.--Poliwop 08:53, 4 January 2012 (EST)

Duplicate families [7 January 2012]

Hi Poliwop,

When you have a moment, please take a look at your Duplicates List by going to My Relate>Show Duplicates. It’s a good idea to check this list on a regular basis. There are a few families there that are potential matches. We have an ongoing site-wide project to merge duplicates, but it is always better if somebody familiar with the families can make the merge. Here is our help page on merging. If you have any questions, just let me know. Thanks! --Jennifer (JBS66) 11:32, 5 January 2012 (EST)

I merged a couple that look like actual duplicates, but there's also one that isn't a duplicate. Is there any way for me to mark them as definitely different? Thanks!--Poliwop 02:06, 7 January 2012 (EST)

Yes there is. Go to your duplicates list, click on "open in new window", click the match box at the top, then scroll to the bottom of the page and press "Not a match". This will mark the talk page with the "nomerge" template and the potential match will no longer appear on that list. --Jennifer (JBS66) 05:56, 7 January 2012 (EST)

Reitwiesner [10 January 2012]

Hi Poliwop,

I noticed you added several of Reitweisner's pages yesterday. After starting to annotate one of them, I think it would work better to have his website overall as a source. Who he was and his research methods are common to all of the pedigrees, and although we could insert that information on all of the pages via template, I think having one page for all of his research would be easier. Thoughts? --Amelia 09:17, 9 January 2012 (EST)

Yeah that sounds good. It'd be nice to be able to link each profile to the specific ancestry the individuals appears on, but maybe there's a better way to do that, I'm not too familiar with different options with sources.--Poliwop 22:01, 9 January 2012 (EST)
