Ogg Family Tree.ged appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [17 January 2009]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Go to the Family Tree page, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in that tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler later this Fall.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

William Livingston [25 September 2009]

Hi,

I am a volunteer admin cleaning up duplicate pages on WeRelate. It is our goal to have one wiki page for each ancestor. Going through your upload, we have come across a number of problems.

For instance: You have a Person:William Livingston (22) and Person:William Livingston (21) both are married to Agnes Hepburn. However they were born in different places and their birth and death dates are about 40 years apart.

According to "New England Families" by Cutter: "Alexander married Agnes Houstoun and was succeeded by his son William, the fourth lord (anno 1503), who married Agnes Hepburn, daughter of Alexander of Whitsome. Of his three sons, Alexander succeeded as the fifth lord, while James, the second son, who was killed at Pinkie in 1547, was the ancestor of the American branches."

Person:William Livingston (21) seems to be the right one, but his brother is listed as his father and the birth date is really the date he succeeded as Lord.

There are other problems besides this one that we've run into; this is just an example.

There are several ways to clean up these problems:

  • You can go through your tree and clean up these problems on WeRelate, or
  • Most pedigree managers check for common errors and conflicting data. You could delete your tree, fix the problems in your pedigree manager and then re-upload.

If you are interested in cleaning up the errors, please let me know. Otherwise, we will be deleting your tree on September 30.

Thanks,
