Edward Napier [2 October 2018]

Hello, I noticed the change you made to the page of Edward Napier, removing him as a child of Patrick Napier and Judith Burke. Do you have other proof of his parentage, as many others have him as their son...

Please advise.

Thanks--Delijim 17:19, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Edmund Napier sometimes known as Edward Napier is the son of Patrick Napier Sr and Ann Franklin His first wife. Edmund Napier's age based on the 1830 Lee County census shows He was born between 1750 and 1760. His actual birth year can be refined by being added to the Fluvanna County , Virginia Tax list in 1777 and on His land and Survey of 361 Acres that was transfered to Anderson Bryan in Albermarle County, Virginia on 10 May 1775, making His birth year closer to 1752/3. Edmund Napier was married twice first to Sarah Corn and secondly to Rachel Ely in 1786. I call Him Edmund Napier because 95 percent of all the records we have of Him list Him as Edmund, He is only listed as Edward in just a few records out of the dozens we have. Edmund Napier 1752-aft 1830 was named after His grandfather Edmund Franklin Sr who was the father of Ann Franklin , Patrick Napier Sr's first wife. They are proven to be still married as of 1763. We also know that Judith Burke is still single as of July of 1764 and there is no evidence showing the marriage to Judith Burke. A chancery Court record in Bedford County, shows Patrick Napier Sr and Ann Franklin still married as of 1763. We have been doing an extensive research study on Edmund Napier and His two Families and the Two families of Patrick Napier Sr and His wife Ann Franklin and the reported 2nd wife Judith Burke. Edmund Napier is just one of several names in Patrick Napier Sr's family that have been named after the Franklin Family. Those names include Edmund Napier named after Edmund FRanklin Sr father of Ann Franklin, Dicey Napier named after Dicey Franklin a sister to Ann Franklin, Lucy Napier named after Lucilla Franklin a Sister to Ann Franklin, and Ann Napier named after Ann Franklin the first proven wife of Patrick Napier SR. There are no names in Patrick's family that take after any of the Burke Family. No William, No Catherine, No John, No Thomas and His daughter Judith Napier is probably named after Patrick Napier Sr's Sister Judith. Edmund Napier's first son Thomas FRanklin Napier was born in Fluvanna County, Virginia where Edmund Napier lived from 1777-1782, Thomas Franklin Napier was born in July/Aug of 1779. They had another son named Hughes born ca 1780 who migrated to North Carolina. After His first wife died prior to His marriage to Rachel Ely. Edmund Napier and His father Patrick Napier are in the Fluvanna County tax list of 1782 and they leave Fluvanna County by August of 1782 where Patrick Napier Sr is buying land in Montgomery County, Virginia with His family. The Judith Burke marriage if it happened never took place until the earliest of 1766, making Rene Napier the likely son of Patrick Napier Sr and Ann Franklin as well. We know That while in Montgomery County, Virginia we have a good idea that Judith Burke died before Patrick Napier Sr did because she was 17 years younger than Patrick Napier Sr. She was never listed as a widow in the tax list for she would have only been around 56 years old when Patrick Napier Sr died ca 1799/1800. Thomas Hughes Napier the 2nd son of Patrick Napier Sr and Ann Franklin born ca 1758/9 died in 1799 leaving His widow Mary Brumfield Napier the sister to Fanny Brumfield who married Patrick Napier Jr 1767-1736. Edmund Napier 1752/3 and His Family with Rachel Ely and oldest son Thomas Franklin Napier are still in the 1801 Montgomery county are as they are listed in the 1801 Tax list there as of March of 1801. They leave before the 1802 tax list. Patrick Napier Jr is last in the 1802 Montgomery County tax list but leaves before the 1803 tax list. Son Rene Napier left 1765-1832 left Montgomery County, Virginia in 1795 and is in the 1796 Lee County tax list.. Edmund Napier and His family head on to Virginia in present day Wayne County to set up His oldest son's first Homeplace. His son Thomas was a pioneer School teacher who taught School their from 1803 to His death in 1860. Next record we have of Edmund Napier is when He and patrick Napier Jr show up in the Lee County tax list for 1804. Also to note in 1798 We can see Edmund Napier 1752/3-1830 listed in the Montgomery Co tax list with His son Thomas F Napier who came out of His household for the first time in that tax list. Other Napiers listed were , Thomas Hughes Napier and Patrick Napier Jr.. Patrick Napier Sr was exempt from paying taxes. Rene Napier was already in Lee County, Virginia. I have many more records of Edmund Napier and one from 1808 where HE makes a visit to His son's Thomas F Napier's home in Then Kanawha County, Virginia to sign a petition to divide that county to form a new one in Dec 6 1808, In 1809 Cabell County, Virginia was formed. I have Edmund Napier's survey from 1775, a petition he signed in 1781 in Albemarle County, a signed deed from George Corn where George sold land to Edmund Napier's cousin John witnessed by Edmund Napier and Champion Napier who were all first cousins. Interesting thing about this record is that it uses both names Edmund and Edward Napier. We are just scratching the surface. Glad to Help You in anyway. I descend from Edmund Napier and His first wife Sarah Corn through their son Thomas Franklin Napier and I descend from Patrick Napier Jr and Fannie Brumfield through their son James Napier. I have been researching over 20 years .--Napes 18:02, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Sounds good, I concur with your info above and also have added a few more records to this family. Feel free to add additional records where you can. :) Best regards, Jim:)
