James Durgee descendants [20 January 2015]

Mark-- I just noticed your 2012 questions. Sorry to take so long in replying, I work mostly on Ancestry.com

I've just completed revising my Ancestry Public Tree DURGEE LTD, and it now includes the 4 generations of descendants of James Durgee (1795-1851)

I'll try getting it into "My Heritage" but with technology like it is I'm not sure--

ANYWAY The reason the tree ends at James Durgee (1795-1851) is I'M STILL TRYING TO LOCATE HIS ANCESTORS! He told the 1850 census that he was born in Vermont. There's a newly-published book on the Durkee Family (alternate spelling) but it says #303 James Durkee/Durgee "no information" I've sent e-mail to the author, but she apparently doesn't know either.

Because she has no information, I'm wondering if maybe he was adopted/illegitimate and born to a mother who was NOT a Durkee/Durgee. Who knows...

BUT I've traced his wife Margaret Van Ness to father Cornelius Van Ness who was a Revolutionary soldier and turned down a "Bounty land" grant near Fabius. I'd like to find just where & when he was born AND died.--WAJoyce 00:47, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
