We were not able to import your file because it does not appear to be a GEDCOM file. You might want to read this help page.

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded passeywiki.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Gedcom warnings [4 November 2010]

Hello and welcome to WeRelate. Thank you for attending to your gedcom upload so promptly and for excluding the duplicates. There are some obvious errors among the items on the Warnings tab that we would like to see handled before we merge your data into the shared database. Please take another look at those which indicate unlikely dates. I noticed in one family that the marriage date matches the wife's birth date as an example. Since your data will be mingled into the single, shared database we like to have it cleaned up before import. You can work on your personal database and upload a fresh gedcom file or you can edit your preview pages in the bottom panel of the review. I have returned your file to the user review status so you can view it. If you choose to edit there, you can go to the Import tab and click the Ready button when you are finished working. Hey Judy. I knew this was a pretty rough gedcom but I wanted to get it uploaded and then recruit family members to help me correct it in your site. We have digital scans for all of the primary events for maybe 25% of these people and hope to be adding many more.

We like this site because it creates a place where others can view those records as we upload them and find more.

Thanks for keeping us honest. I fixed many of the errors most of them were simply typos or such. These records will only get cleaner.

passeywiki.ged Imported Successfully [4 November 2010]

The pages from your GEDCOM have been generated successfully. You may now:

• launch the Family Tree Explorer to navigate your tree
• view your network -- If you matched families in your GEDCOM to existing families, find out to which other WeRelate users you are related.
• view related pages not in your tree -- If you matched families in your GEDCOM to existing families, find out which people you are now related to that you can add to your tree (takes awhile to display for large trees).
• view a searchable list of the pages in your tree -- The searchable list will be available about an hour after your tree has been imported.
